Wonderful Copenhagen has secured 54 congresses in the capital by 2025, expected to generate billions in economic growth and a high level of knowledge exchange. The capital is set for a record year in terms of attracting international congresses. In collaboration with the business community and public authorities, Wonderful Copenhagen has successfully attracted 54 new congresses to Copenhagen in 2025.
This will bring more than 85,000 experts worldwide to the city, which Wonderful Copenhagen believes will create significant economic and knowledge gains for Denmark.
Wonderful Copenhagen points out that, over the years, it has built a strong position in the global competition to host knowledge congresses. In 2024, the organisation set a new record by attracting and signing contracts for congresses resulting in more than 438,000 hotel nights and a turnover of DKK 1.7 billion in the coming years.
“We have over 30 years of experience attracting congresses cooperating with public authorities and around 150 private tourism companies, the Meetingplace Association and the knowledge community. Therefore, as a small country, we can compete in the toughest league in the global competition to host knowledge congresses”, says Søren Tegen Pedersen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen.
For the first time outside the US
One of the most significant congresses in 2025 is Wind Europe, the world’s most important wind energy congress, which will be held for the seventh time at the Bella Center over three days in April. It will attract 15,000 wind energy experts and create new opportunities for Danish wind energy.
“The congress is a great opportunity to highlight Denmark’s leading position in wind power technology. In connection with the congress, we are organising tours around the country for the companies’ global customers, decision-makers and journalists, so they can see for themselves how the companies are constantly pushing the boundaries of wind technology and green energy systems,” said Kristian Jensen, CEO of Green Power Denmark.
Other key congresses in 2025 include the European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery, which will have 12,000 participants; a global IT congress, which will have 3,500 participants; and the world’s largest management congress, which will be held outside the United States for the first time, with 10,000 participants.
Intensified efforts
Wonderful Copenhagen has also tried to create broader value from the congresses through the Copenhagen Legacy Lab. This is developing new models for how Danish businesses, research, and civil society can make more significant and lasting contributions when major international congresses come to Copenhagen.
With 85,000 participants in 2025, this year is only surpassed by 2016 and 2023, when congresses were held that had been postponed during the coronavirus.
Morten Dahlin (V), Minister for Urban and Rural Affairs, emphasises the importance of these congresses for Danish tourism and business: “The congresses serve as global platforms for Danish companies in the Danish business community’s key areas of strength. We should be proud of this because it is important for Danish tourism.”
