The Lucerne Convention Bureau (LCB), the business tourism division of Lucerne Tourism, will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2026. To mark the occasion, the LCB is planning a series of events and promotional activities over the coming months.
The LCB was founded in 2006 with the aim of positioning Lucerne as a premium business destination. This goal has been achieved: over the years, Lucerne has established itself as a popular destination for organising seminars, conferences, and incentive trips. First-class venues such as KKL Lucerne, the Swiss Museum of Transport, and Messe Lucerne are testament to the quality and diversity of the meetings and events offering today.
Well-established and internationally renowned
Today, the LCB is a firmly established institution that is recognised both nationally and internationally. Every year, the LCB team advises and supports numerous organisers in planning their events. Thanks to close cooperation among hotel partners, conference centres and the partner agency Bucher Travel, Lucerne has strengthened its competitiveness in the Swiss and international meetings and events markets and consolidated its reputation abroad. “The LCB is a valuable partner in positioning the diverse range of opportunities for events at our venue, both nationally and internationally, and in enabling us to host a wide variety of events,” says Philipp Keller, CEO of KKL Management AG.
Success stories
Over the past 20 years, the LCB has had the privilege of supporting numerous major events, thereby significantly enhancing the destination’s appeal. The 2024 Peace Conference on the Bürgenstock, for example, brought international attention to Lucerne and impressively demonstrated the region’s potential for high-profile events. The Ambassador Programme was launched in 2017 to involve local stakeholders more closely. It brings together leading figures from the worlds of science, medicine, business and culture who use their networks to promote Lucerne as a conference and meeting destination. Thanks to their efforts, numerous national and international conferences have already been held in the region. Furthermore, through close collaboration with the City of Lucerne, Lucerne Economic Development, and the Lucerne hotel sector, business tourism has been strategically developed and strengthened in a sustainable way.
The 2026 anniversary year
The 2026 anniversary year will highlight recognition, networking, and Lucerne’s expertise in the meetings and events industry. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the LCB is planning several events and competitions. “In this special anniversary year, we would like to say thank you: to our long-standing partners, without whom we could not position our destination as a premium business destination; to our former employees, who contributed to our success with great passion; and above all to our clients, who place their trust in us and time and again plan events in our region,” says Isaline Grichting, Head of the LCB.
A strategic segment for the destination
Accounting for 20–25 per cent of the total number of overnight stays in Lucerne, business tourism is a key strategic pillar for the destination. It can count on a clientele with strong purchasing power and, through numerous events in the shoulder and off-peak seasons, supports the strategy of spreading guests as evenly as possible throughout the year and generating as much added value as possible for many stakeholders. The LCB represents the Lucerne-Lake Lucerne region in eight international target markets. Although these markets remain important, most clients organising meetings and other events come from Switzerland. Accordingly, the domestic market remains the most significant.
Some key figures from the last 20 years:
- More than 23,000 customer contacts and consultations.
- 3,700 enquiries processed.
- Participation in over 600 customer and business events.
- Since 2010, 240 conferences supported, generating added value of €217 million for Lucerne.
The LCB was launched in 2006 with 17 members from the city of Lucerne. Today, the LCB has 88 members across the entire Lucerne-Lake Lucerne region.
