Hong Kong celebrated the official opening of Kai Tak Sports Park on 1 March 2025. On this landmark day, a host of local and Mainland sports, cultural and performing arts elites of all ages and generations, as well as celebrities from film, television and music, gave their best performances to celebrate the grand opening of the Kai Tak Sports Park, creating a classic scene for all to enjoy.

The opening ceremony performances were themed around four main segments. The show began with energetic drumbeats and powerful dances, followed by dragon and lion dances entering the Stadium from all directions, symbolising the “grow and multiply without end” spirit of Hong Kong, accompanied by powerful vocalists singing uplifting songs, showcasing the boundless energy of Hong Kong, and symbolising the new Hong Kong landmark officially making its debut to the world – welcoming various sporting and entertainment events to settle in Hong Kong, showcasing their brilliance at Kai Tak.

Celebrities and athletes from Hong Kong and China combined sports and music themed around struggle and dreams. The show presented a peak showdown between International martial arts stars and Olympic champions, along with performances by emerging singers, inspiring every audience to strive for excellence.

A gathering of multi-generational local and mainland celebrity artists and athletes, including legendary champions who have repeatedly brought glory to the nation, and current National and Hong Kong team elites promoted national sports of China, such as badminton and table tennis, to showcase the profound Chinese culture to the world. They highlighted the integration and inheritance of sports culture, aiming to inherit past brilliance and create a new chapter.

At this grand opening ceremony, all performing guests showcased their talents to the audience, pushing the venue’s atmosphere to its peak in the fourth segment. This demonstrated that Kai Tak Sports Park is ready to connect Hong Kong to the world, making the “Oriental Pearl” shine even brighter. The grand finale of the choir segment represents Kai Tak Sports Park, allowing various sectors of Hong Kong to showcase their talents and create possibilities for the future.

John Sharkey, CEO of Kai Tak Sports Park, stated, “With the completion and opening of Kai Tak Sports Park, Hong Kong is better positioned to actively attract large-scale international events, drawing more visitors and investments, injecting new vitality into the development of sports and performing arts culture industries. We will fully use the park’s international standard advanced sports facilities to assist the Hong Kong Government realise the vision of an international sports platform, develop the sports industry’s home court economy, and welcome entertainment events to shine on the international stage at Kai Tak.”

In addition to the exciting performances inside the venue, an LED dynamic light show was also staged on the exterior walls of the main arena. With themes similar to the performance, various celebratory phrases and patterns, combined with colourful fireworks illuminating Kai Tak in a magnificent and dazzling manner, visible from both sides of Victoria Harbour. Projecting this groundbreaking new landmark with a radiant glow, it symbolised Kai Tak Sports Park, uniting all sectors to once again elevate the “Oriental Pearl” to new heights.

Kai Tak Sports Park says they are thrilled to announce the establishment of long-term partnerships with renowned local and international enterprises. This collaboration unites industry leaders, including the Premier Founding Partner HSBC, Founding Partners CTF Life, Cathay, Coca-Cola, HKT, Marriott Bonvoy, and other official partners and suppliers.

Exciting Opening Month Events

The opening event also marks the beginning of Hong Kong Super March, with a series of exciting events scheduled throughout the Opening Month at Kai Tak Sports Park, further solidifying Hong Kong’s position as “The Premier Hub for Mega Events.” Events will include:

  • World Grand Prix 2025  March 4–9
  • Kai Tak Sports Initiative – Kai Tak Run  March 16
  • Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025  March 28–30

In the following months, various significant sports and music events and test matches for the National Games will be held in the park. In November, the 15th National Games will feature competitions for the first time in Hong Kong, with four events taking place at Kai Tak Sports Park. The 12th National Disabled Persons’ Games and the 9th Special Olympics National Games (Special Olympics) will also have an event held at the sports park. “We will spare no effort to ensure the successful staging of the event.
