VisitScotland Business Events will play host to the second meeting of 2024 for The Strategic Alliance of the National Bureaux of Europe, a network of 29 national destination marketing organisations, on 5–6 September 2024 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh.
The alliance, led by Eric Bakermans of the Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions and Matthias Schultze of the German Convention Bureau, strengthens Europe’s position as a leading destination for international business events.
The meeting will include a preview of the agenda for Convene 4 Climate, which will take place on 2–3 October in collaboration with PCMA in Barcelona, Spain. It will also feature conversations around the future of business events in Europe and the ongoing development of the Sustainability Hub for Events, an AI-powered platform dedicated to promoting sustainable events.
Matthias Schultze, Managing Director of the German Convention Bureau, said: “Eric and I are excited about the upcoming meeting in Scotland, which represents another step forward in our mission to solidify Europe’s leadership in the global business events industry. We are deeply grateful to Neil Brownlee and the VisitScotland team for hosting us, and we look forward to the productive discussions that will shape the future of our collective efforts.”
Speaking on the event, Neil Brownlee, Head of Business Events at VisitScotland, said: “We are honoured to host the second meeting of 2024 of The Strategic Alliance of the National Bureaux of Europe here in Scotland. By coming together to share insights and strategies, we are enhancing our destinations and solidifying Europe’s standing on the global stage. As the incoming first European Chair of PCMA in 2025, I am especially proud to host these colleagues and friends as we drive global, economic, and social transformation through business events. I want to thank Eric and Matthias for bringing this year’s meeting to Scotland.”
