Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) has announced that Tokyo has secured the winning bid to host the ASME 2026 45th International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering (OMAE 2026) from June 7 to June 11, 2026.
OMAE is organized by the OMAE Conference Committee and the Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). It is the ideal forum for researchers, engineers, managers, technicians, and students from scientific and industrial communities around the world to meet and present advances in technology and science, exchange ideas and experiences, promote technological progress and its application in industry, and advance international cooperation in the ocean, offshore and arctic engineering.
This annual conference has been held twice in Japan: in Tokyo in 1986 and Yokohama in 1997. OMAE 2026 will commemorate the second time Tokyo will host this distinguished assembly in a 40-year period and is expected to attract 1,200 participants, including 1,000 overseas specialists from over 30 countries. It will provide exciting opportunities for participants to experience Tokyo’s intimate relationship with the ocean, especially through technical tours. The conference will also offer a substantial business opportunity for all delegates and exhibitors. Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba, one of the capital’s largest conference hotels, will be the perfect venue due to its location in the Odaiba Waterfront area, with easy access to and from Haneda and Narita Airports.
The deciding factors for winning the bid were the solid proposal made by the Japan Bidding Committee, led by Professor Hideyuki Suzuki of the University of Tokyo and Professor Tomoki Ikoma of Nihon University, and Japan’s long-standing contributions to developing technology in the field of ocean engineering for the effective utilization of marine resources. For example, with solid support from the national government, Japanese academia and industry have drastically advanced the cutting-edge technology of floating offshore wind turbines in recent years.
A generous subsidy from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) to provide financial and in-kind support for OMAE 2026 was also essential in the selection. TCVB played a significant role, bringing considerable expertise and experience supporting the Japan Bidding Committee in preparing its bid proposal and presentation materials.
