Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden are joining hands and aiming to strengthen ties with Japan and Japanese companies. The project is now kicking off with a building tender.

The Nordic countries aim to strengthen ties with Japan and Japanese companies, and the Nordic participation in Expo 2025 underscores a significant commitment to the Japanese market. Japan is the world’s third-largest economy, with a population of 126 million people and represents an interesting market for sustainable and digital solutions and innovations.

The Nordic Prime Ministers have agreed on Vision 2030, which states that the Nordic region will be the world’s most sustainable and integrated region. Joint Nordic participation at Expo 2025 Osaka is a natural stepping stone on this path and a tool for fulfilling this vision. The Nordic concept of participation is based on this vision and will reflect the shared Nordic values and ways of working in the Nordics.

Why are the Nordics participating at Expo 2025 Osaka?

The world faces multiple issues that need to be resolved quickly. We urgently need better solutions for mobility and connectivity and new solutions for circular economies. We also need to raise the standards for people’s health, lifestyle, and well-being. Through strategic cooperation at Expo 2025, the Nordics offer a joint aspirational vision of a sustainable world.

The Nordic presence at Expo 2025 Osaka includes a joint Nordic pavilion, joint marketing activities and Nordic events. The Nordic pavilion is planned to become an arena where new solutions can be shaped by mixing social principles, competencies, and technologies from the Nordics with visitors’ ideas and initiatives.

Prequalification: design and building of the Nordic pavilion

The project is now at the stage where tendering for the pavilion building can take place. The Nordic countries invite companies to participate in the prequalification for a call for tenders to design and build the Nordic pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. The budget for the pavilion is six million euros. Tender is published at TED. Other tenders, for example exhibitions, are planned to take place later this year.
